When it comes to feeding bearded dragons, most know that they are omnivores, which requires insects and vegetables to meet their daily diet. However, many owners are unaware that the vitamin plays an important role in their pet's health. Dragons need a steady dose of calcium and multi-vitamins to keep them as healthy and strong as possible in the years to come.
Calcium feeding
Calcium is an important vitamin for your beardie health. It is calcium that is required to keep their bones strong to prevent metabolic bone disease. It is also the reason why we aim for a high-calcium vegetables when feeding our lizards, and gut-loading of our insects. It is also the reason we supply UV illumination.
or you can "dust" your insects by putting them in a bag with a pinch of calcium and shaking gently, or you can sprinkle some of the vegetables.
Children - Once a day
minor - 4 to 5 times a week
Adult - 4 to 5 times a week
multi-vitamin to feed the
multi-vitamins are used to ensure your pet gets a well-rounded vitamin intake, in the event that the food provided is missing. These vitamins also come in powder form, as well as calcium. It will be added to either crickets or veggies in the same manner as described for a calcium supplement, but less frequently.
Children - 3 to 4 times a week
minor - 2 to 3 times a week
Adult - 1 or 2 times a week
It is important to note that both multi-vitamin and calcium supplements should not be used in the same feeding. Certain vitamins in a multi-vitamin will bind to calcium, rendering it useless for you lizard, as it will not be able to absorb into the bones.
Adding these vital nutrients when feeding bearded dragons could take a few extra minutes, but will ensure the pet gets the absolute best nutrition possible. Calcium and multi-vitamin supplements can be purchased for around $ 5 - $ 7 each, and last quite a long time, because very little goes a long way. My jars are usually close to the last year, and added cost is minimal. You can find these supplements at most pet supply stores, or you can order them online. Maybe you'll probably find a better price online, but beware of overpriced shipping costs, which total more than the price stores charge.
